Police cars from Merimbula, Bemboka, Tathra and the Far South Coast Highway patrol were tasked to Candelo on Friday, January 31 with fears for the safety of local residents after reports of a man with a “live chainsaw” who appeared to be affected by alcohol or drugs.

The incident which developed around 2pm centred around the park at Candelo, residential property in Williams Street and another property in Whetley Lane.
The man, believed to be about 25-years-old, was reported to be fighting with another man in the park and had returned with a chain saw.
There were concerns for a resident in Williams Street and police quickly gathered and secured the Williams Street address before going to search for the man with the chainsaw.
There were further fears when police found the chainsaw in a property and also ammunition, prompting concerns around the possible use of firearms.
The man, believed to be from outside the area, was arrested and taken to Bega Police Station.
