No, Merimbula hasn’t struck oil but nearly as good as ... after 14 years since plans were first lodged for a supermarket development, there is finally some action on site. This appears to be a positive step forward. On Monday, January 20 a drilling rig was set up on the car park opposite Woolworths, Merimbula to undertake routine bore hole tests/surveys of the site. The tests were taken at several places over a 24 hour period and were going to be passed on to a geotechnical company for investigation. The tests are understood to be part of the standard requirements of the excavation process and are a precursor to any work starting on the site where developer Gerald Rawson, of Melbourne, has plans to build a supermarket and underground car park. The News Weekly made several calls to Mr Rawson but they were not answered.
