Rainy weather has set the timeline back a little bit, but steady work should see EKWM welcome visitors back over the summer period.
Jack Dickenson, president of the the Friends of Eden Killer Whale Museum, said the improvements were coming along wonderfully.
"The bricklayers are finished, the cement render is to be done soon and roofers are due to do some cladding, which will then allow for us to increase the capacity of our solar system," Jack said.
"We are very happy with the builders, they are very conscious and doing their best."
Weekly meetings have been taking place to discuss the timeframe for completion of the works.
"We can't open until people are travelling again, locals represent only a very small portion of our income and we have to have enough money to pay full staff. We feel for them and are anxious to get open again," Jack said.
"We should get a bit of influence from Victorians soon who will be enjoying their freedom."
Jack said roadworks undertaken to improve connectivity to the Port of Eden greatly impacted traffic coming past and to the museum.
"It's a little bit of a bright light on the other side of coin that our visitors didn't have to endure that."
Jack said the board and members are hoping for heavy visitation when EKWM reopens.
"This has given us a chance to catch our breath, we meet regularly, the board and members are really dedicated," he said.
Accessibility will be greatly improved with the addition of a new lift to service three levels of the museum, though the delivery of the lift mechanism from overseas has been delayed.
"It probably won't arrive until the end of January, but that won't stop us from completing anything else because it stands alone. We will still be able to move in and get started," Jack said.
"It's been a long, drawn-out affair, we have been at the grindstone for a while, having first initiated these improvements in about 2015.
"It will be worthwhile and will make the attraction even bigger. We are well aware the museum is a prime destination for many who come to the area."
