The revelation comes just days after the virus was found in samples taken from the Eden treatment plant ahead of the weekend.

There have been no new cases formally identified on the Far South Coast with two cases in Merimbula remaining the only two known presently. A new case has been identified in Batemans Bay and is linked to the known cases there.

Bega Valley Shire Council is yet to release a statement on the new detection, but the advice from NSW Health falls in line with previous detections in Eden and Merimbula.

"As more fragments are found across the shire, the possibility of there being unknown local cases increases," Mayor Russell Fitzpatrick said.

"If you live in Bermagui or the surrounding areas including Wallaga Lake, Fairhaven and Akolele, or in fact anywhere in the shire, and you have the slightest hint of cold-like symptoms, you need to get tested.

"This means if you are experiencing symptoms such as headache, nausea, sore throat, runny nose, cough, loss of smell or taste, or fever, you must get tested and isolate until a negative result is received."

The community was asked to be alert for any symptoms including a headache, nausea, sore throat, runny nose, cough, loss of smell or taste, or fever.

If symptoms appear, people must get tested and isolate immediately, and remain isolated until a negative result is received.

Across the state there were 1259 new cases and sadly 12 deaths reported to 8pm on Monday night.
