Fire and Rescue NSW and the hazmat truck from Eden were called to assist NSW Fire and Rescue Merimbula, RFS Merimbula, police and ambulance services on Monday night at about 6.30pm as fire took hold of a home in Henwood Street, Merimbula.

Eden Fire and Rescue captain Zlatko Nemec said arriving crews were faced with an intense blaze making access difficult for firefighters.
A video taken by Captain Nemec shows how quickly the fire took hold and destroyed the property. Thankfully no one was in the home at the time.

"Fire was contained to the structure with extensive fire damage to the home, while contents inside the home were destroyed, Captain Nemec said.
The hazmat truck from Eden attended as the home contains asbestos and the area taped off.
The fire is being investigated by FRNSW and police.
Captain Nemec said the Eden members sent their condolences to the homeowners for their loss.
He reminded people of the importance of having an escape plan, and ensuring smoke detectors are in good working order as it can mean the difference between life or death.
