While the coldest averages reported on the weekend ranged around 2-4 degrees from Bega to Eden, Bombala recorded a low of 0.5 degrees at 1.30pm Saturday, May 15.
Merimbula woman Emma Spencer was visiting Bombala for the weekend and said it started snowing from midday until around 5.30pm on Saturday.
Ms Spencer captured a short video of the snowfall which she shared to her friends on Instagram.
Some of the coldest temperatures recorded on Saturday May 15:
- Bega recorded 2.9 degrees at 6.30am
- Merimbula recorded 4.1 degrees at 6.40am
- Eden recorded 4.1 degrees at 6.40am
- Bombala recorded 0.5 degrees at 1.30pm
Bombala maintained an average of 2 degrees throughout the rest of the day, whereas Bega to Eden hovered around 7-9 degrees.
The mean maximum temperatures so far this month have been close to the long-term averages.
Bega recorded its highest temperature this month at 26 degrees on May 3, which was 3.7 degrees cooler than the highest on record in 2018.
The sudden cold surge brings good news to winter sport enthusiasts, as Perisher announced 12cm of snow on Saturday morning.
The lowest temperature recorded in Perisher this month was a shocking -9.4 degrees on May 16, the long-term average for May usually sits at -1.3.
