Bulldogs pacing for opening dig

The Merimbula-Pambula Bulldogs will aim to conquer the Bay Tigers in the opening round of Group 16 rugby league this weekend

The under 18s, reserve and first grade teams will head to McKay Park on Saturday to play matches against the Bay Tigers for the season opener.

Second rower Daniel Cronk will lead the first grade squad after securing the coaching role with the club late in 2020.

It will be his first endeavour as coach, but Cronk earlier said he had big aspirations for a strong season.

"I don't want to emulate previous coaches, you just take aspects from everyone you've ever played for and with so I've probably got my own vision of how we're going to plan and attack," he said.

"We've had good patches get us in position to play finals, but we haven't been able to take that extra step, I just want to instil a bit of extra drive - I want to take all the things I've learned from everyone and mould my own path."

The Bulldogs will form part of the Southern Pool as Group 16 will contest a round robin across each club before splitting into a northern and southern pool to play out the remaining home and away games.

A majority of games will be in the north this weekend with Bega heading to Moruya, while Tathra travel to Narooma, while the Eden Tigers will be on their home ground at George Brown Memorial Oval to host the newest addition to first grade in the Snowy River Bears.

However, the under 18s will take the stage first for the Bulldogs with an 11.30am start time with reserves to follow at 1pm and seniors to kick off at 2.30pm.
