The East Australian Current has slowed to a moderate pace and at the edge of the Continental Shelf the water temperature is a favourable 22 degrees and the marlin are running hot.

Dolphin fish have also arrived and best found about the FAD. Bait fish at the edge of the shelf have become patchy. The presence of oceanic trawlers scooping up the blue mackerel bait fish is of concern.

With marlin activity reaching a peak the club is running a "Club Friendly" tag and release event for all of March with particular emphasis to inspire those who have never fished for marlin, never caught one, to participate.

Some remarkable ocean sand flathead have been taken directly off Kianinny about the 20 fathom mark.

With the moon full there is also lots of gummy activity and good catches reported from the same area. Ocean flathead remain on the chew, both sand and tiger all along the coast. Try Bithry, Kianinny, Bournda Island and off Tura Headland during the run out tide.

We have reports of both flathead and snapper off the pinnacles past Haycock but swarms of chinamen leatherjackets are making it hard to fish. Try Tura, Main, Haycock and Aslings beaches for Australian salmon.

Salmon and tailor respond to both silver lures and gang hooked pilchard baits. Don't forget best time is in the evening approaching dark and in the better defined gutters.

Luderick at the Merimbula Wharf have become patchy. Local cabbage weed is working best when the water is crystal clear otherwise artificial flies are doing a great job. Salmon and tailor are about in the early mornings and evenings. Some lovely calamari squid are also coming from the wharf after dark and at Tura Headland. Try No.3 slow sinking jigs.

The channels at Merimbula, Pambula and the Bega River remain full of tailor and trevally, there are also dusky flathead, bream and whiting. The run out tide for duskys and the run in for the rest.

Reports to hand tell of metre plus dusky flathead taken at night from the launching ramp pontoon at Mogareeka. Surely the place to fish for these wonderful gentle giants, expressly catch and release.
