The squash courts are being built within the Sapphire Aquatic Centre recreation facility run by the Bega Valley Shire Council and will include three courts and moveable walls.
The creation of this squash facility will give the Merimbula Squash Club a new home and allow them to connect with squash players in the community, attract strong junior and senior membership numbers and run and develop competitions.
Ms Maroc met with Merimbula Squash Club president Matt Fanning and Aquatic and Leisure Facilities Coordination Nicholas Hoynes to discuss the future plans for the facility and the ways which Squash NSW can assist in the growth of squash in the region.
Mr Fanning says Merimbula Squash Club is looking forward to the courts opening later this year "to get the old members back and the fantastic camaraderie that came with this, and equally importantly getting some fresh faces in and tapping into some of the younger people around here including the schools".
Mr Fanning will be bringing this experience from this project and further knowledge and skills with him as he joins Squash NSW's newly established Facilities Committee as a committee member.
Squash NSW is committed to supporting their members and pursuing the growth and improvement of squash facilities across NSW.
The Squash NSW Facility Committee will be working to develop a co-ordinated approach to the improvement and development of squash facilities across NSW.
Squash NSW CEO Kristi Maroc says, "Squash NSW is extremely excited to support the soon to be launched Facilities Committee as we are working to better serve and support our members by ensuring the best opportunities, promotion and advocacy for our sport."
