Recent wet and windy weather has been wonderful for whale watching as the travelling pods are active in 'noisy sea', but offshore angling has largely been kept at anchor.

Merimbula Big Game and Lakes Angling Club officials said water temperatures were warming though and members are looking forward to the summer marlin season.
The Clubs annual trip away to Wonboyn Lake Resort was described as an overall success despite wind and rain. TV was on display on Saturday and Sunday nights for a weekend full of grand finals, while the keen anglers showed Wonboyn produces even while the rain falls.
Officials said the river proved flush with large bream and some lovely dusky flathead. Club President Peter Haar caught the winning dusky on his first serious attempt at using soft plastics. The Club mandates that bream and dusky flathead are released for Leader Board entries to be accepted, maintaining these wonderful fish alive. Congratulations to Robert Wood for his magnificent 42cm bream.
For those who ventured offshore ocean flathead have come back onto the chew. Try off Bithrys, Kianniny, Bournda Island and Tura Headland. Best results from about 18 fathoms. Some good snapper and morwong reported from off Haycock and near Boyds Tower and Mowarry. Best bait pilchards as well as soft plastics and micro jigs.
Tailor grace the main Merimbula Top Lake, troll with silver spinners. There are salmon out on our beaches and headlands. Great places to fish during SW winds. Best spots Tura, Main, Haycock and Aslings beaches. Pilchards and ganged hooks seem to bring the best returns.
Red worm soft plastics at the Club's Spencer Park jetty will see good returns of trevally. Soft plastics are a must for good results in both Merimbula and Pambula estuaries. Available are good trevally, occasional salmon and bream. In the Broadwater at Pambula and the Top Lake at Merimbula water temperatures are rising and we are now getting some response from whiting and dusky flathead. The Bega River remains fairly dirty after the recent rains.
