Organiser Sue Hunt said the 23km and 10km rows had started as a bit of a curtain raiser to the George Bass Surf Marathon, but has grown to become a local annual favourite among clubs.

So far 11 boat crews have entered along with seven skis where Pambula and Tathra rivalries will feature, while one ocean canoe is also registered for the day.

"I think I've got a couple more Sydney entries coming this week with entries to close Thursday," Ms Hunt said.

She said the public can join in an ocean canoe or stand up paddle board, but expected conditions to be a bit too rough for SUPs this year.

Should the weather be dubious on the day, alternate routes are planned.

"The backup plan is to start at Broadwater and paddle or row to the rivermouth and then turn around and come back - that's the route we used last year because it was really crap weather," she said.

Ms Hunt said the Club to Pub was non-competitive, but it was hard to keep eager rowers down, particularly off the back of strong appearances at the opening round of the Warilla Bowls Surfboat Premiership in Bulli.

Batemans Bay proved strong winning the Open men's as well as the reserve men's and women's events.

"In the veteran women's the Tathra women won in their first year contesting it, they rowed exceptionally well," Ms Hunt said.

The open women's was taken out by the Sydney crew from Alloura.

Crews will give their all, and sometimes a bit of cheek to each other, Ms Hunt said with a laugh.

"A bit of sledging goes on and it is fun."

While spectators might not catch much of the open water racing, you can see crews heading out for deep water starts from Pambula Beach from about 8am on Saturday morning.

"It's a deep water start, they'll push off and there are cans posted about 50m off the beach where they'll go off in waves - the skis will be going first because they're doing the 23km course," Ms Hunt said.

Interval starts will follow with the surfboats launching from 9am.

The Club to Pub will also provide an excellent warm up ahead of the second round of the surfboat premiership, which will run in Batemans Bay on November 14.

Ms Hunt said the Surf Club was grateful to Raging Bull Surfware who had thrown their support behind this year's row.

"It has been a hard year for everyone, but for them to put their hand in their pocket and hand over a few dollars is a big deal," she said.
