This year the Bega Valley Domestic Violence and Sexual Assault Committee (BVDVSAC) is using the event to raise awareness about the use of violence in relationships and how to access support if someone finds themselves in this situation.
This committee is a forum for local services that work together to provide community education and activities aimed at raising awareness and working towards the elimination of violence in the Bega Valley.
For more than 15 years BVDVSAC has been operating the Bega Valley Says No to Violence campaign that seeks to reinforce anti-violence messages and to increase anti-violence awareness, attitudes and culture in the community.
The committee will be hosting a stall at Bega's SCPA Markets on Friday, October 2 and providing a range of information about what violence in relationships looks like, the different forms that violence can take and how to access support for both victims and perpetrators of relationship violence.
"We will also be joined by representatives from Headspace Bega and the Far South Coast Rainbow Wave Festival who will provide information targeting young people and people in LGBTQI+ relationships to ensure our message and support information is accessible for people in all types of relationships," a BVDVSAC spokesperson said.
"In addition to our market stall we're taking our message into cafés and putting it, quite literally, into your hands through our specially printed coffee cups.
"The cups will carry the message 'Relationships Without Violence Are Possible' along with the contact numbers for Mensline, 1800RESPECT and the NSW DV Line."
The spokesperson thanked Mal's Pizza Bite, Evolve Café, The Coffee Stop, Hudson's Coffee, The PeaNut Eatery, Expresso Yourself and the Nook Cafe for assisting its campaign to eliminate violence in the Bega Valley.
