It wasn't the sea that was providing the opportunity for some tricks on a board but a large stream of water that had accumulated behind the surf club following a weekend of heavy falls around the Far South Coast.
Over the weekend Merimbula Airport recorded 36.6mm of rain, Nethercote 45mm, Bega 60.4mm, Narooma 69.3 and Moruya 93.6mm.
There has been a sense of relief that the expected deluge did not prove to be as much as originally forecast.
The Bega Valley SES said rainfall eased from Saturday evening and river levels upstream of Bega fell from earlier peaks. The Bega River at Bega peaked at 2.80m at 5am Sunday morning, below the minor flood level.
