The Diggers had some strong passages of play and had an affinity for high-flying marks, but at every challenge the Sea Eagles just appeared to lift their energy and take the Merimbula club head-on.
The Diggers were kept under pressure by Tathra's back line and the five majors for the club came from individual goal kickers on Saturday.
Caleb Higgins and Finley Cooke had standout performances for the Diggers with some great passages of play through the middle, but the Sea Eagles had an answer to every advance the visiting club made on the weekend.
The host club welcomed the return of Luke Taylor, alongside Scott Hay and bolter Louis Coulton who were pretty mobile throughout play.
It was the second quarter where the damage was done as Tathra fired home four goals, while containing the Diggers to just one major to take a 25 point lead heading into the main break.
A goalless third quarter by Merimbula, who found just a handful of behinds allowed the margin to grow further and the Sea Eagles were buoyed by a commanding lead heading to the final period.
The Diggers provided a strong finish with a flurry of three goals, but the Sea Eagles posted two of their own and the earlier deficit in scoring provided more than enough buffer for the home side to secure their first victory in the shortened season.
It wasn't the weekend for the Merimbula club in other grades, suffering losses in both the reserve grade men's and women's contests.
The Bermagui Breakers proved too strong on their home turf at Dickinson Oval, defeating the Diggers 10-14-74 to 3-4-22.
Sebastian Hannebury bagged three for the hosts, while the Breakers boasted a further seven individual goal kickers on the day.
Nick Forester kicked a pair for the Diggers, while Matthew Leonard also slotted a six pointer.
In women's play, the Diggers fell to Bermagui 23-16-154 to 0-1-1.
At the Panthers, the women's roster had a narrow loss to Eden, while the first grade team had a forfeit to the Narooma Lions.
The Lions were awarded a 120-point walkover result.
Kiarna Woolley-Blain bagged a pair for the Panthers, while Alison Mathie was a strong performer for the Panthers.
Unfortunately, Eden were just a little too handy with the ball to kick clear for a 5-6-36 to 3-3-21 finish.
Amber Seckold and Kate and Mel Mitchell ensured the Whalers had a dominant amount of possession during play with some high-flying marks and long range kicking.
The Wyndham Wedgies had a bye.
