Last year it was revealed that cricketers had the highest rate of suicide among sports people in Australia and the R U OK? cricket day was spawned to reduce stigma around mental health and open up conversations between team-mates and support networks.
Building on the wonderful response to last year's event, the Kameruka Black Cockatoos club will this year welcome a team from Tathra for a men's clash.
"It will promote the chance to catch up with friends and family and ask the question, R U OK?," said mental health advocate and R U OK? ambassador Glenn Cotter.
Mr Cotter said now more than ever was a critical time to check up on mates given the bushfire crisis.
The weekend round will also pave the way for a broader community cricket day on March 28 dubbed the R U OK? Big Cricket Day out.
"With the ongoing drain on all in the Bega Valley and surrounding regions we can't think of anything better for the soul than a good day out with family and friends, have a barbecue and a drink and watch some great cricket at the historic Lord's View Oval at Kameruka Estate," Mr Cotter said.
"The day is a Far South Coast Cricket Association initiative with the support of Cricket NSW and Cricket ACT, we are working hard to put on a day for all the family with a Coaching Clinic planned for our stars of the future in the morning, followed by two matches in the afternoon."
The Black Cockatoos will then field their ladies team in a T20 and later their men's team with both outfits to take on a FSC invitational line up for a bit of fun on the pitch.
"RU OK? would like to issue the invitation to our local Mental Health Services to join us on the day either with a stand or with supporting resource's to support the Bega Valley community as we all continue to rebuild & connect," Mr Cotter said.
Ahead of the day Mr Cotter encourages everyone to get along to Lord's view this weekend for the clash.
"This is the perfect way to support our community, plus it should be a cracker of a game between Kameruka and Tathra." The match will ruin from 2pm on Saturday and all are welcome.
