At the official celebration in Bega on Sunday, while the ongoing bushfire crisis and incredible response from emergency organisations and community relief operations was front of mind, there was also plenty to celebrate with the awarding of the annual Citizens of the Year.
Michele Bootes of the Pambula Surf Life Saving Club and Same Wave program was named our Citizen of the Year, with Colin Dunn from Pambula Rotary the Senior Citizen of the Year.
Young Merimbula athlete Kiarna Woolley-Blain was the Sportsperson of the Year.
Ms Mudaliar shared her honour with mental health support worker Jen Keioskie.
