The NRL Club are rallying behind recovery efforts along the Far South Coast with the entire NRL squad and support staff to take part in a tour from Milton and Ulladulla south to Cobargo and Quaama.
Players and staff will convene in Batemans Bay on Tuesday, January 28 for a family fun day at Hanging Rock Sports Complex (2.30pm-5pm); there locals will be treated to an afternoon of activities, clinics and a meet and greet with their favourite Dragons players.
The 70-plus Dragons representatives present will spend Tuesday evening and Wednesday morning split between Ulladulla, Batemans Bay, Narooma and Bermagui; with an eye to help assist with the cash flow collapse on the South Coast.
A number of Dragons players and staff will attend the Lake Conjola community barbecue on Tuesday night.
The Dragons will spend Wednesday, January 28 engaging within the community through school, community groups and refuge centre visits as well as assist with any properties, businesses and homes in need.
Group 16 chairman Allan Wilton said it was a wonderful initiative by the club to aid in any way for communities that have been devastated by the fires.
"These fires have done enormous damage and caused plenty of pain to the people of the Bega Valley, so we're appreciative of any support and help the club is able to provide," Mr Wilton said.
Mr Wilton said the Dragons have ties to the Far South Coast as a catchment area for players, with Euan Aitken and club ambassador Kezie Apps hailing from Pambula and Bega respectively.
Officials for the Dragons said the club had been saddened to hear of the suffering caused by the fires along the Far South Coast and is keen to help where they can.
"If you know anyone in need of assistance in any of these areas, please do not hesitate to contact the club via email, dragons@dragons.com.au," a spokesman said.
The Cobargo-Bermagui Eels were among the Group 16 clubs under threat by the devastating bushfires, with the clubhouse saved, but the ground and parts of the signage burned in the New Year's Eve blaze through the town.
Dragons Community visits to Bega, Eden and Tathra will go ahead later in 2020.
The visit from the Dragons also follows a visit to Batemans Bay by the South Sydney Rabbitohs on Thursday where the club held an open clinic.
The community visits will also be followed up by an NRL trial between Penrith and Parramatta in February.
"This is an opportunity to have a genuine impact on the region. Our players are looking forward to spending a few days in the community, participating in events with locals, and help rebuild a community,'' Parra CEO Jim Sarantinos said.
