Paul McCooey of Splash Internet had planned to give $1000 each to five small businesses in the area but Drift at Eden declined saying they thought there were others more deserving and so he decided to redistribute the money to the remaining four.

"We haven't been affected by the bushfires and I wanted to give something directly. These businesses need it now," he said.
"Many are seeing less money now than in the worst of the off season, they are 90 per cent down. They've tried to build up a business and this has happened and it's not their fault."
He said that if the area loses businesses it would come back to hurt us in the long-term. But equally he said he would be very surprised if no businesses were lost as a result of the economic impact from the bushfires.
"If the holiday season doesn't exist then we don't. We don't want anything out of this, we just want to lead by example and encourage any other businesses that are not affected to do something as well," Paul said.
