Moviegoers were only charged the price of a children's ticket on Sunday, with $2 from every ticket going to the bushfire relief effort.
Merimbula's Picture Show Man Cinema was involved in the initiative, donating money to charities helping bushfire-affected communities.
Money raised from the day went to the Salvation Army Bushfire Appeal, Australian Red Cross Disaster Relief and Recovery and the RSPCA Bushfire Appeal.
The concept was a collaboration between cinemas, the Motion Pictures Distributors Association of Australia, the National Association of Cinema Operators, the Australian Independent Distributors Association and Independent Cinemas Australia.
The Merimbula business will also be providing discounted movie tickets on Wednesday to the Society of St. Vincent de Paul to be given to a group of 50 Towamba residents.
Directors Jesse and Marea Tankard, who both lived through the March 2018 Tathra bushfire, said they understand the need for children to enjoy themselves in the wake of the recent fires.
"We really want to help out because we know what it's like," Ms Tankard said.
