NSW Rural Fire Service made the announcement, stating the fire is more than 21,000ha and is out of control.
Current Situation
- The fire is burning to the north of Bemboka and west of Brogo.
- Fire conditions are forecast to deteriorate on Friday. Erratic fire behaviour may be experienced.
- The fire spread prediction map shows the potential fire spread and the communities that may come under threat from embers or fire fronts. Other surrounding areas may still come under threat if conditions change, or if fires breach containment lines.
- A number of roads are blocked and closed.
- Avoid non-essential travel in the area. If you are in a coastal village or built up area, remain in place.
Advice
- If you are in the areas west of Bega between Snowy Mountains Highway in the north and Candelo-Bega Road in the south, as well as the Desert Creek and Double Creek, Yankees Gap or Brogo areas, monitor conditions. Know what you will do if the fire threatens.
If you are threatened by fire
- Do not be in the path of the fire.
- Protect yourself from the heat of the fire. Wear protective clothing and footwear. Cover all exposed skin.
- If the fire impacts, seek shelter in a solid structure to protect yourself from the heat of the fire.
- If your life is at risk, call Triple Zero (000).
- If you are in an area that has already been affected by fire, there may be small areas of active fire burning for some time. Be aware of the dangers of trees and branches falling.
