The Lake Street Foreshore Reserve contains a rare example of a remnant "littoral rainforest" pocket nestled within a township and is a significant place for local Aboriginal culture.
Council is in the process of restoring this unique stretch through weed removal, walking track upgrades and a community education program, "to increase the awareness of the natural and cultural values of the reserve and encourage local stewardship of the site".
BVSC environmental education officer Natalie Ryan spoke to the children about the importance of habitats and the various fauna and flora they could see along the reserve before playing some games and heading for a walk along the existing track.
Council's next Greenshore Connections event will be taking place at Rotary park this Sunday, December 8, from 9.30-10.30
