Also a student at Eden Marine High School, Lachie Cooper's opportunity to climb aboard was sponsored by the Rotary Club of Pambula.
Rotary Club of Pambula Youth Director Beth Moore said he was the third student in recent years to have gained sponsorship from the club to sail on the Young Endeavour.
"It's a fantastic experience and we want to offer local youth the opportunity to be a part of it. Rotary has always had a strong focus on youth and creating opportunities for young people to develop teamwork leadership skills," she said.
"Lachie was one of a number of applicants this year, and we were keen to support his ambitions of a career in the marine biology field after school."
A spokesperson for the Young Endeavour Youth Scheme said the ship's arrival last night was smooth sailing and the ship will be gracing the waters surrounding Eden over the next couple of days. However the youth crew is not set to disembark just yet.

Tomorrow as part of the Young Endeavour's 'Community Day Sail Scheme' the Tulgeen Disadvantage Service will be treated to an exclusive three hour sail hosted by the youth crew.
"This means the crew will reinforce their learning by sharing the experience with others who don't have the privilege of attending a voyage," the spokesperson said.
The ship set sail from Newcastle on Sunday, November 17 with the eleven day voyage due to wrap up this coming Wednesday, November 28.
The ship is expected to pull up alongside the main wharf at 10am for an official 'End of Voyage' ceremony where the youth crew's family and friends will be invited on board the ship.
The general public are welcome to inspect the ship from the wharf.
