There are over 4500 people living with diabetes in and around the Bega Valley.
Almost 10 per cent are living with type 1 diabetes, an incurable autoimmune condition with no known cause or cure. Many of these are children.
"Children with diabetes often feel different because they need to monitor their blood glucose, take insulin and pay careful attention to their diet, exercise and general health," Diabetes NSW and ACT CEO Sturt Eastwood said.
"Days like this let them know they are not alone because they get to meet and have fun with other kids going through the same thing.
"It helps to boost their confidence and self-esteem.
"The day also provides a genuine opportunity for families and carers to share experiences and create a support network in their local area."
All local children living with type 1 diabetes and their families are invited to join Diabetes NSW and ACT at the DiaBuddies Day at Merimbula's Magic Mountain.
On the day activities will include the Sapphire Speedster Coaster, Magic Mountain Maze, Tube Rider as well as a tree climbing challenge for children over eight years of age.
The event is free for children under 14 and $15 for adults, discounted to $10 if the family is a member of Diabetes NSW and ACT.
