Proud dad Darren Stevens said the opening round of the National Junior Track Series (NJTS) was held in Brisbane at the Anna Meares Velodrome over two days with riders contesting over three rounds.
Mr Stevens said Hayden faced a field of 37 competitors from across the country in the under 15s boys age group.
And showing his tenacity against an enormous level of competition, Hayden secured a third place result in a 15-lap scratch race.
On the overall point-score tally with points accumulateed from each varying event, Hayden finished middle of the pack 22nd overall.
"[It was] a very good effort for his first-ever national race event," Mr Stevens said.
Hayden is now looking forward to the two follow-up events in the series with round two to be held in Sydney early in December.
Meanwhile, the third round will not be until February and will go ahead in Melbourne.
