The festival is celebrated every year throughout the Kingdom of Thailand and nearby countries, and comes from the tradition of making krathong, or buoyant, decorated baskets, which are then floated on a river.
Every year, Loi Krathong falls on the night of the 12th lunar month (usually in November), at the end of the rainy season when the full moon lights up the sky.
Organised by the Bega Multicultural Centre, the festival will be held at the Bega Indoor Stadium and Kisses Lagoon on Sunday, November 17 from 11am to 2pm. Entry is free.
