Thanks Pambula Hospital
I recently had to attend Pambula hospital after cutting my hand with a drop saw, the staff were brilliant, cleaning, examining and phoning surgeons and readying me for emergency in Bega where I was looked after and repaired.

Unfortunately a few weeks later I had to attend Pambula hospital again with a medical emergency where the staff were once again extremely professional and caring, they made sure I was stable before organising my transfer to emergency in Bega where they looked after me once again; so thanks to the staff at Bega Hospital and I would sincerely like to thank the staff at Pambula Hospital.

'Incredibly wrong'
In criticising the Bega Valley Shire Residents & Ratepayers Association (BVSRRA) for publishing information that was "incredibly wrong", Cr Fitzpatrick did not bother to acknowledge the fact that the information concerned came directly from council's 2017-2018 Annual Report ("Cost of BVSRRA Questions", MNW, November 6).
Putting to one side the numerous false accusations made against the association during the October 30 council meeting, the BVSRRA believes that it is entirely absurd, indeed hypocritical of council to expect anyone in the community to recognise if information contained in a report published by council is not accurate.
Indeed, if council really believes that members of the community should be able to recognise information in its reports that is "incredibly wrong", how is it that council approved publication of the report in the first place? And what of council's duty of care to the community? And what of council's refusal to accept any responsibility for repeatedly publishing "incredibly wrong" information? The BVSRRA believes that council's consistent inability to effectively manage the shire's financial affairs, including preparing and publishing reports against the standards set by the Office of Local Government is a matter of record.
While the BVSRRA appreciates the effort made by the News Weekly in acknowledging the fact that it was the association's questions that had led the serious errors in the Annual Report being uncovered, it flatly rejects the suggested cost of council "managing" its inquiries and notes that neither Cr Fitzpatrick or council's general manager made any such claim.

View from the other side
First of all, your editors are entitled to their view however misinformed it may be. The antics of drunken display are only by a few, but focused on by the media.
The number of horses who sadly have died through injury or other is also few when taken in context. They are also grieved over because no-one that I know in this industry races their horse wishing for that outcome, but accidents happen.
It could have been in a paddock playing or many other scenarios. Don't forget athletes in all sports suffer injuries, some life threatening and some even die, I do not see anyone ranting about that.
Gambling - well gambling in some form has been around for a very long time and I think if you did a study I do not think horse racing would be the biggest avenue.
But you have lumped in with all of the other misinformation to do with horse racing and in particular the Melbourne Cup.
As for lower attendance, perhaps a lot of people in this industry are getting a bit longer in the tooth and now watch the racing from the comfort of their lounge on their TV - you can see more.
I have been in this industry for a good number of years breeding and racing on a small scale and find it frustrating to see persons in the media going off on a tangent when they have not taken the time to really investigate their story in an unbiased manner.
