MRNSW Monaro Regional Operations Manager Glenn Sullivan said a call from a distressed sailing boat came in just after midday Wednesday while training a new volunteer at the Bermagui station.
The call was transmitted through the newly installed VHF equipment on Dr George Mountain, Bega.
"The reception worked exceptionally well. The call was from a sailing vessel with damaged rigging, 20 nautical miles south of Eden. The boat made its way to Eden harbour where Eden Water Police assisted in bringing the vessel ashore," Mr Sullivan said.
The situation gave Marine Rescue the opportunity to test out the newly installed system and Mr Sullivan said they were pleased with how well it worked.
"For the system to be heard so clearly, especially on the first day of going live is really good news," he said.
He reminded boaters if something goes wrong to call on VHF channel 16.
"There is now more remote reception with equipment in Timbillica, Mount Imlay, Dr George Mountain and Bermagui Reservoir," he said.
