The placement of publicly accessible defibrillators became a project for Rotary after the club heard of a recent experience where someone had been called to an emergency at a neighbour's house in Tura Beach. CPR was administered for 30 minutes before an ambulance could attend.
"Ultimately the young patient in that case could not be revived but prospects of their survival would apparently have been much better had a defibrillator been available sooner," Rotary's president Andy Thorp said.
The first 24-hour accessible defibrillator has now been installed on an outside wall near the drive through section in McDonald's and the second one will be placed in the Tura Beach shopping centre.
