On Sunday, September 8, at 2pm, at Club Sapphire Merimbula there is the opportunity to relive many of those cinematic moments as the Sapphire Coast Concert and Jazz Bands perform their concert entitled 'Movie Magic' and play some of the great themes from the movies.
Under the baton of David Quinlan, the Concert Band will perform a fantastic family program which will include selections from such favourite big screen hits as Moulin Rouge, Shrek, Oliver, The Greatest Showman - and of course, Harry Potter.
Jazz bands have long used movie themes as a source of inspiration, something that will be evident in the Sapphire Coast Jazz Band's set.
Led by Paul Dion players will improvise on the melodies and structures of some of the great movie themes. Film music has become a rich and historic source of some of the great jazz standards.
The Sapphire Coast Concert and Jazz Bands are community groups which practise every week and perform at many local events and ceremonies, including Australia Day, the ANZAC day services and the Eden Whale Festival.
Players currently range in age from teens to seniors. All local instrumentalists and would-be players are welcomed and are given guidance and encouragement when necessary. Anyone interested can play in either the concert or jazz band or both as some of the current players do.
Ticket price is $15, available at the door prior to the concert. Children under 12 admitted free if accompanied by an adult.
