At Wolumla they were called out at around 5.30am on Thursday morning (August 22) after power lines came down in the strong winds and started a grass fire.
RFS community liaison officer Marty Webster said they got on to it very quickly.
"We had eight crews and 20 personnel which we got on site very quickly to deal with it," he said.
The fire was contained within a couple of hours although by 9.30am on Thursday the RFS still had some heavy plant on site reinforcing containment lines.
Mr Webster urged anyone who had burnt over recent weeks to check their pile burns.
"Also as we are now in the bush fire season please consider your own level of preparedness and your bushfire survival plan," Mr Webster said.
He urged anyone to report unattended fires to 000 and said that it made a real difference to have that early warning.
The high winds are expected to start backing off later today.
Further north however Forestry NSW and Rural Fire Service crews are battling an out-of-control bushfire, north west of Nerrigundah in rough country.
A Triple-Zero (000) call was made on the morning of Thursday, August 22.
Far South Coast RFS manager John Cullen understood the fire had started from an old burn.
Five Eurobodalla Rural Fire Service crews and three Forestry crews are at the scene.
Mr Cullen said a bulldozer was clearing a track.
"It's very difficult country; we have a dozer there to get a track for suppression," he said.
"We have fire crews and forestry working to get containment in difficult conditions."
"It will take a little while," he said.
Mr Cullen said other RFS crews were also "tied up" at Wolumla and Bermagui fires.
