"It will reduce net annual power consumption at the centre by a massive 67,300 kilowatt hours and stop over 55 tonnes of carbon emissions reaching the atmosphere each year," council has said adding that the energy savings equate to council planting over 1200 trees every year - or about 30,000 trees over the life of the system.
These two clean energy projects not only reduce council's running costs at the centre, but also make a contribution to reducing council's overall carbon footprint.
The solar installation alone will reduce the centre's current energy bill by 60 per cent, and the replacement of 170 light bulbs with new LED fittngs could potentially shave a further $8000 off the annual bill, council said.
"Where practical, our facilities are being upgraded to generate renewable energy and reduce energy consumption through energy efficiency measures such as lighting upgrades. These initiatives are all part of our Clean Energy Plan that aims to protect the environment and reduce the cost of council operations," council said.
