Just one competition point separates second from sixth place with just two rounds left in the regular season.

"There is just two round of the competition left and the fight for the top five semi-final positions has developed into one of the most intriguing and exciting battles for many years," Mr Wilton said.

Instead of clearing the air and separating the rivals, Mr Wilton said the round only served to muddy the waters further with close wins and a high-profile draw bringing the ranks even closer together.

"With the exception of the Roosters who have jumped five points clear, the remaining four places could go to any of the remaining five teams," he said.

Mr Wilton said the match of the day on Sunday saw the Tathra Sea Eagles produce a season-best performance to take down the Bulldogs and advance to equal second on the table.

"And on Saturday it was a crowd thriller when the Bombala Blue Heelers kicked a penalty goal in the last minute of play to claim a 30-all draw against the Eden Tigers," he said.

However - that result sees the Blue Heelers dead level on 22 competition points with the Sea Eagles.

In a three-way split for fourth, the Bulldogs, Tigers and Moruya Sharks all sit on 21 competition points.

Mr Wilton said the Bay Tigers, Narooma Devils and Cooma Stallions would all fall short of the finals and offered commiserations to the clubs.

The chairman congratulated the Stallions, who had faced a difficult year, but were able to down the Bay Tigers 58-18 at Cooma on the weekend.

"It's a commendable result for the Stallions after a season riddled with injuries," Mr Wilton said.

However, Mr Wilton said it wasn't just the first grade that was a close race with good matches in reserves and league-tag as well.

The High Heelers downed Eden 16-6 in a grand final rematch, while Mr Wilton also congratulated the She Eagles who carded their first win of the season against CBU winning 18-12.
