Lanterns ready to glow

Merimbula Public School students and children from Little Nippers Early Learning and Childcare, Merimbula have been very busy designing and making their lanterns for the lantern walk on Saturday evening.

At Merimbula Public School the lantern making has been incorporated into Japanese and Asian Connections classes.

Along with making lanterns, students have explored the traditions and values attributed to Japanese festivals and other cultures and how their celebrations are unique.

Students discussed the meaning of lanterns and their connection to outdoor celebrations that are deeply embedded in many cultures including Japan, China, Burma and Vietnam.

The lantern walk will kick off at 5:30pm from Spencer Park and head towards Twyford Hall. Watch out for the Brothers OnFire circus act too.
