"We're excited about the prospect of working with local land managers to improve water quality, increase biodiversity and help protect the broader marine and estuarine environment," senior land services officer at South East Local Land Services Shannon Brennan said.
Up to $500,000 is available for projects that:
Improve water quality in the identified priority catchments;
Are located along estuaries, wetlands or rivers that have salty or brackish water or are located on freshwater reaches just upstream of the tidal limit;
Protect and enhance threatened or endangered ecological communities such as coastal saltmarsh, littoral rainforest and swamp oak forest;
Can commence and be completed in the 2019-2020 financial year.
Public and private land managers as well as local community groups are encouraged to apply for the funding.
"The project work can include installing fences to exclude stock from waterways and saltmarshes, protecting remnant native vegetation, revegetating riparian zones to provide bank stability, reducing run-off and improving habitat for native wildlife," Ms Brennan said.
"These activities will help support clean, healthy waterways which are highly valued by local communities and industries such as tourism, aquaculture (oysters) and agriculture along our coastline," Ms Brennan added.
To obtain an information package, including the full list of priority catchments and assessment criteria please contact Shannon Brennan on (02) 6491 7823 or email: Shannon.brennan@lls.nsw.gov.au.
All expressions of interest are due by June 24.
