By 9am, 75 per cent of the votes in the electorate had been counted and on a two-candidate preferred basis Dr Kelly was projected to return as MP with 51.67 per cent of the votes, despite a swing of 1.26 per cent against him.
His main opposition, The Liberals' Fiona Kotvojs, had 48.33 per cent of the votes on a two-candidate preferred basis.
Under the the national two-party preferred count, the Liberal/National Coalition had 50.89 per cent of the votes with a swing towards them of .53 per cent.
