Tura men's golfers wrapped up their club championships last weekend.

Officials said A grade was a very close tussle from the first game with Mick Coulter playing off scratch and Gary Cook off -1 sharing the honours on the day with 75 off the stick, then Mick picked up 2 shots on Gary on the second day with 74, before Gary dragged 1 back on day three with great round of 72, one under the course par of 73, to be only a shot behind.

With scattered rain and in gusty winds, the pair squared off to battle out the result where Coulter managed the win on 79 to finish two up from Cook's 81.

Coulter secured the 2019 championship crown with 301 ahead of Cook's 304 with Josh Mawby in third on 309.

Jo Richardson won the nett result with 294 nett.

There were plenty in the mix for the B grade crown with Mick McCarron leading from Mike Wood after round one.

Greg Smith joined the fray with Wood still in the chase in round two.

As the others fell away Chris Rootsey off 14 emerged from the pack with a solid 81 on day 3, but Wood hung in with an 88 followed by Minh Nguyen with 89.

With the result in the balance it was a cracking final round to give Wood the win on an overall 349 off the stick with Chris Rootsey falling off in the wet to finish on 355 for the runner-up spot.

As a consolation, Rootsey secured the May monthly medal, which ran in conjunction.

Nguyen battled hard to card a 93 on the last day to take third place with an overall score of 359. B Grade Nett winner was Greg Smith.

Club officials said C grade saw the lead swaying across the four rounds. Tony Hayward led from Alan Brown on day one.

Kevin Pattman entered the frame on day two with a great 87, but Brodie was back in the chase on day three scoring 90 from Brown's 92.

This set up a three-way showdown for the finale

Alan started the day on 282 for the previous 3 rounds, one clear of Kevin on 283 and three clear of Brodie on 285.

Brown doggedly managed to hang on in the wind and rain to take out the C Grade Championship with a final round of 101 an overall 383 off the stick. Brodie recorded the best score on the final day coming in with 100 for an overall 385 to take Second Place, just two shots off the pace. Kevin carded a final 105 to take Third spot. Nett winner was Ric Wright.

Brodie wsa declared the club's junior champion for 2019, but officials said his fantastic showing in C grade meant he was likely to feature on the championship boards for some time to come.

A small field of competitors played for the the D Grade Championship, played over 2 rounds.

Ric Wright playing off a handicap of 35 took the honours for 2019 scoring a gross 209. D grade nett champion for 2019 was Bob MacKay with a net 154.
