Junior rugby league has entered the busy part of the year on the Far South Coast and Monaro with clubs busily preparing for the 2019 season.

The Merimbula-Pambula Minor Rugby League Club will hold a 'Come and Try' day this Saturday.

With the season looming, the club is eager to welcome all returning and any interested new players for the year. Junior rugby league caters to any player from under 7s up to under 16s.

Officials said there would be plenty of fun activities with the session kicking off from 9am at the Pambula Sporting Complex.

Club president Simonne Greer said the activities will wrap up with a free barbecue lunch at 11.30am.

There will be club officials on hand to answer any questions you might have ahead of the season, but they can also inform anyone of how to get involved in junior rugby league.

Club coaches and the area's NRL development officer will also be on hand.

A number of the club's senior players will also be at the ground on Saturday to assist in the exercises.

Ms Greer said the minor league Bulldogs were hoping to build on the strength of the previous season.

"In 2018 we had more than 150 players between six and 16-years-old," Mr Greer said. "This year there is scope to expand this participation."

One of the huge areas of growth has been in female involvement, with Ms Greer confirming that league-tag had taken hold.

"It is expected that more than 20 per cent of all Merimbula-Pambula play8ers will be girls this year," she said. "Girls are able to take part in mini-league and league-tag, while boys will enroll in mini-league, modified-league and international league teams according to their age."

The Bulldogs' president said she was also excited about the announcement of funding for upgrades to the Bulldogs' homeground at Pambula Beach over the weekend.

“The announcement comes on the back of an exciting week with the Canberra Raiders and Canterbury-Bankstown Bulldogs, who have shown great interest in the sporting activities of children in the Sapphire Coast," Ms Greer said.

“The support shown by the NRL teams in the past week has been fun and inspiring for local kids.  Along with Adam Elliott visiting with the Canterbury-Bankstown Bulldogs, , we are also proud of our club hero Euan Aitken who plays with St George Dragons, and Bega talent Dale Finucane playing with the Melbourne Storm”.

The Junior Bulldogs are inviting everyone to experience the excitement of junor rugby league on Saturday.

Training and season details will be published as they are announced.
