Organised by the Albury Wodonga Lego User Group, it is hosted by the Rotary Club of Pambula and sponsored by Club Sapphire.
Janet Brandon, of the Rotary Club of Pambula said the club was delighted with the response this year.
“We have been really thrilled because there have been so many young ones. I think there will be about 2000 people through the doors by the time we close. They have been streaming in steadily,” Ms Brandon said at Thursday lunchtime.
“We’re enormously grateful to the exhibitors and the Albury Wodonga Lego User Group who put this together,” she added.
One of the exhibitors, Scott Esposito was from Queensland, had been exhibiting in Melbourne and was persuaded to drop into Merimbula on his way home.
Mr Esposito’s large display featured a military theme with tanks and aircraft.
“I was encouraged by another exhibitor to come here. The kids are amazed and the dads and granddads are loving it too,” he said.
Part of his display featured a MV22 Osprey troop carrier with over 1800 pieces which took him more than seven hours to build.
Closer to home Meaghan Morrison of Tathra is trying to start up a Lego User Group on the Far South Coast.
“I have applied for grants to buy a large amount of Lego. I’ve got 50 to 100 people interested and once I get the grant we plan to meet either fortnightly or weekly at Club Sapphire.
“Even if you only have 20 people you need a large amount of Lego to keep everyone occupied,” Ms Morrison explained.
She got involved about 10 years ago because of her son’s interest and had a very complex Jurassic Park themed display that attracted a lot of attention.
Exhibitor Graham Draper of Wollongong has been to all three Merimbula Brickfests and along with a great car display had what he called a Star Wars, M-Tron mash up display.
“The venue is much bigger this year and the displays are bigger,” he said.
Club Sapphire’s auditorium was filled with interesting exhibits and also had a lit display in a darkened corner that had plenty of interest from young and older visitors.
