The $1 million stage 2 improvements, due to commence in February, will further enhance the hospital’s overall amenity.
Pambula Hospital acting nursing manager Kelly Jurd said it was pleasing to improve the environment for everyone using the facility.
“The initial work has really improved the hospital, providing a better design and functionality to improve the way patients are cared for,” Ms Jurd said.
“Stage 1 also provided patients with a, parents' room and a kids' corner near the new waiting area as well as an additional toilet facility.”
The final stage of work is in addition to an earlier $1.6 million cash injection from the NSW government. Stage 1 included a new main entry and reception, a refurbished Assessment, Treatment and Care Clinic, treatment spaces, bathroom facilities, and an exercise room.
Patients will be temporarily relocated while the final components of the building work takes place.
“The refurbishment work can create a lot of noise and dust, so it makes sense to move our patients to a more appropriate setting. As patient safety and care is our number one priority, we will be temporarily relocating our patients to South East Regional Hospital as an interim measure while the works are underway,” said Ms Jurd.
On completion of the refurbishment, patients and staff will return to the new wards which are expected to be completed by May.
The Treatment, Assessment and Care Clinic at Pambula Hospital will remain open seven days a week from 9am to 5pm (with last patient’s seen at 4:30pm) throughout the Stage 2 renovations. Patients attending the Clinic are either assessed, treated and discharged by a Nurse Practitioner; referred to a local GP medical service for further assessment or treatment; or transferred to South East Regional Hospital (SERH) for treatment.
Patients seeking care for serious illness and injuries should go directly to SERH emergency department, Virginia Drive, Bega. Patients with life threatening conditions should contact an ambulance immediately on 000. NSW Ambulance takes all emergency cases directly to SERH emergency department.
