For the 29th year the Rotary Club of Merimbula will host the Australia Day Celebration at Rotary Park, Merimbula starting with egg and bacon rolls fresh off the barbecue between 7.30-8.30am for just the cost of a gold coin donation.

At 8am the music will start from the Sapphire Coast Concert Band and will be followed by a general welcome and acknowledgement of country by Rotarian and MC for the day, Sue Jellis.
With the assistance of Merimbula Scouts the flag will be run up a gum tree and the national anthem will be sung. John Fraser of Spectrum Theatre Group will recite some bush poetry.
The Merimbula Australia Day Ambassador this year is manager of Merimbula Tourism Chris Nicholls who will talk about recognition, compassion and respect in his address.
The mayor Kristy McBain is expected to make an early appearance before heading to the ceremony at Bega but another representative of council is expected later.
There will be a youth address by Eden Marine High School students Zoe Pentin and Sean Fitzpatrick and a closing address by president of Merimbula Rotary Janet Maughan.
To finish the celebration the Sapphire Coast Jazz Band under the direction of Paul Dion will play after the proceedings.
Get in early, bring blankets and chairs, there will be a coffee van for those who need a kick start to their morning.

“We are hoping for good weather and to see lots of people, especially as it is falling on a Saturday.
Rotary has a busy year of community projects including a disabled access path to the beach at Mitchies Jetty and revitalizing Rotary Park with some maintenance on the barbecue areas.
After the celebration at Rotary Park the Merimbula Scouts will move to Spencer Park with the barbecue where they will be cooking sausages from 10am until 3pm.
Bega will host a citizenship ceremony and there will be a breakfast, market stalls and entertainment at Littleton Gardens.
