Ms Prowse was one of two youth selected from the Far South Coast branch to attend a leadership excellence program in Brisbane at the weekend, November 23-25.
The three-day program at the University of Queensland offered a range of workshops, activities and guest speakers to help develop leadership skills for men and women aged 18-35.
The theme of the program was “Own the unknown” and more than 50 young leaders from NSW and Queensland participated.

“It was a worthwhile trip where we were pushed mentally, physically and emotionally by a range of surprise activities,” she said.
An activity Ms Prowse found challenging was a commando style training session which took place at the Brisbane Army Barracks.
“It was very full on, and I wasn’t expecting it at all. They gave in depth scenarios to help us prepare for large scale disaster relief and catastrophic events with multiple causalities,” she said.
“Other key activities over the weekend included guest speakers who discussed leadership qualities, female leaders, mental health in leadership positions and the role which Surf Lifesaving has in disaster management.”
Ms Prowse said a highlight of the program was networking with like-minded leaders who were looking to make positive changes in their clubs.
This year, Ms Prowse was appointed chief training officer of Pambula SLSC, and is eager to help more youth get involved.
“I hope to develop a youth program at Pambula to engage young members post nippers and programs to engage associate members, for example, nippers parents – it would be great to see parents more actively involved,” she said.
Bronze medallion courses have been in full swing, Ms Prowse said, “we are about to run the second bronze course of the season and 16 people are enrolled. There will be another run in the new year too.”
