Brian’s purple patch at bowls

A fabulous day was had by Merimbula-Imlay Social Bowlers on October 1 with the inclusion of 20 traveling bowlers from West Pennant Hills bowling club who were visiting our area. Taking out the honours of the day in our Joe’s Special were Alan Gale, Brian Kennedy and Bill DeJong recording 20 points. One point back was the grouping of June Hanley, Grant Stevenson and Conrad DeZwart on 19.

Winning first prize in red section on October 4 recording 19 points was the grouping of Michael Wilks, Boris Schneider and Ian Martin in a three way countback. Second went to Derek Tibble, W Ryan and Paul Rogers. Green section also required a countback to determine the winner, which was Ralph Freeman, John Penrose and Brian Smith finishing on 19 points. Second place was taken out by Tom Freeman, Brian Kennedy and Bernie Rees.

On Saturday, October 6, with the sun shining all bowlers enjoyed their game – none more so than Brian Kennedy who found a purple patch this week finishing in the prize money three times from three events. Kennedy combined with Tom Freeman to win the day’s event recording 20 points, one clear of Vikki Edwards and Peter Taplin on 19, who in turn were one ahead of Wilma and Barry Rusling on 18.
