The club will have a weekend of celebrations around the 1968 premiership winning side, including a catch-up dinner at the Commercial Hotel [Top Pub] and an unveiling of a special plaque at the Pambula Sporting Complex.
The weekend begins with a social meet and greet at the Top Pub this Friday from 5pm, all current and past players, sponsors and supporters are encouraged to head along to reminisce and catch up over all their footy glory stories.
Saturday is the official part of the weekend with a commemorative plaque unveiled at the Bulldogs’ spiritual home ground – the ‘Dogpound’ at the Pambula Sporting Complex.
Officials said they were keen to celebrate and look back on the team that became one of the fundamental building blocks of where the Bulldogs are today.
Officials and organisers will share a brief history of some of the club’s premiership success with a focus on the 1968 team.
Coached by Pat Ward, many pundits backed the opposition, but the Bulldogs won through to the premiership in a single-try grand final against Batemans Bay 13-8.
Commentators then said it was a “rugged” outing with most of the points through penalty kicks – and most of those taken from about 40 yards.
The season earned John Carter the title of ‘golden boots’, but it was an all-round effort with some great displays from club legends like Keith Gordon, Ray and Allan Radford, Kevin Savage, Russell Ballantyne and Les Umback.
There are a few tickets remaining for the two course dinner at the Top Pub following the unveiling.
To book your seat, please get in touch with Carolyn at the Top Pub on 6495 6012.
A courtesy bus will be available for those in the Pambula-Merimbula area to the plaque unveiling and back to the Pub for the dinner.
Officials said there were already a good number of people booked in and they were looking forward to the weekend celebration and catch up.
