A national promotion of the sport from Golf Australia, the Country Club has been on board the program for the last few years and said it had been highly successful.
Tura Golf Professional Lisa Newling said the club will host a number of ‘come and try’ sessions for men and women, but also some targeted junior clinics this year that are for new or returning players.
“It’s about helping people feel more comfortable getting into golf, it can be an intimidating sport, but it doesn’t have to be, particularly with juniors we’re encouraging families to get involved because it’s a game you can play together,” Ms Newling said.
The sessions are completely free and will include some training sessions on stance and swinging the clubs before hitting the course for a few holes.
“Everyone will meet at the pro shop, you’ll learn how to putt, then do some hitting before getting out on course.”
Entrants will then get the chance to catch up for a chat over a free sausage sizzle after the session.
Ms Newling said all equipment is provided free of charge and encouraged people to just wear runners or comfortable shoes and bring a hat.
“This is a great celebration of the sport, there is something for everyone,” she said.
“If you’re unsure about it, this is a comfortable environment to give it a try.”
Ms Newling said golf was a lifelong sport with people able to play into their 90s, but it was also open to young people with many Far South Coast Clubs boasting some prodigious young stars, like Tura’s own Casey Cook.
“It really is a sport for everyone, men, women and kids are all welcome.”
The club will also be offering discounted three-month memberships for any player looking to take up golf after the sessions – with unlimited play available.
Ms Newling said it was a great opportunity for those looking to continue after the sessions without committing to a 12-month membership.
“You’ll get three months and unlimited opportunity to play, particularly over the summer it’s a great time of year to take up the sport.”
Both Ms Newling and fellow professional Loraine Lambert will be running the ‘Give Golf a Go’ sessions.
The first junior session will be held on Monday from 1pm.
Two men’s and women’s sessions will be held with the first on Sunday from 1pm and a second on October 22. All sessions are completely free.
For anyone looking to join, simply call the pro shop on 6495 9068 to register.
There is also Monday morning rounds for “newbies” in a social setting.
“Come along, have some fun and give golf a go at Tura Beach - it's all about fun,” Ms Newling said.
