Around 1pm, the driver of the vehicle performed a U-turn in the middle of the road and collided with the motorcyclist. As a result of the collision the bike caught fire causing burns to the man’s legs.
Merimbula Fire and Rescue, Police and Ambulance attended the scene, closing down part of Tura Beach Drive.
“The bike exploded on impact and the man suffered burns to his legs, he was being treated by the ambulance before we arrived but I think he is in a stable condition,” senior firefighter Nathan Pascoe of Merimbula Fire and Rescue said.
The motorcyclist was transported to South East Regional Hospital by ambulance for further treatment.
The motorcyclist’s partner arrived at the scene and said “he is such a safe rider, I just wish people would be more aware of motorbikes on the road”.
