Winners across several categories were announced at a special function at Longstocking Brewery Pambula on Sunday, September 16.
Mr Warne won the main prize – three nights’ stay at Spirit Level Mallacoota and a $150 voucher for Wheeler’s Restaurant – for his photo “Winter Paddle at Pambula Beach”.
Judges said “this photo is not only technically perfect but also captures the simplistic beauty of the coast plus the enthusiastic soul of its people”.
The competition called for photos that best captured the essence of winter on the Sapphire Coast, and which had to have been taken this season.
“We were absolutely thrilled with the quality and quantity of photos entered in the competition with more than 300 beautiful photos of the Sapphire Coast received,” a Sapphire Snappers coordinator David Rogers said.
“It was a fantastic initiative to motivate photography enthusiasts in the area and show off this amazing natural coastline over the winter season.”
Judging the competition was local restaurateur Jacqui Smith from Wheeler’s Seafood Restaurant, along with award-winning Australian landscape photographer Luke Tscharke.
Both judges had the difficult task of choosing winning photos across the categories of Wildlife, People, Action, Aerial, Landscape, Seascape and nominating one photo as Winter 2018 Photo of the Year.
In addition, the “Snapper Award” as chosen by the four group coordinators for dedication and enthusiasm to photography was presented, won by Danielle Lynn for her “Mangroves at Top Lake Merimbula”.
