Historical society
Do you have a historic artefact at home? Would you like to tell us about it? The Merimbula-Imlay Historical Society is holding a 'show and tell' session at our next meeting to be held in the Function Room of the Merimbula RSL Club at 2pm Monday, September 24.
Members and visitors are invited to bring an artefact and talk about it to the group. The Show and Tell will begin after the meeting at about 2.30pm.
The August meeting was enlivened by Steve Goodchild, former principal of Wyndham Public School, who shared some of his experiences at one-teacher schools around the state.
Places with a Past – Historic Sites, Present Value is the title of a display set up in the Merimbula RSL Club display case.
Using photos and artefacts from the Old School Museum and from the personal collection of Angela George (who also provided the text), the display highlights some of the historic sites in our local area and is well worth a look.
The museum on Main Street, opposite the RSL Club is open 1.30 to 4pm every Sunday, Tuesday and Thursday.
The museum contains 1500 exhibits, 3000 photos and 8000 documents and is definitely worth a visit. Researchers are welcome. Entry costs $5 for adults with no charge for children.
