This is ongoing work as the seeds spread from the original plantings on the terraces below Mirador are capable of establishing themselves in the mostly sandy area.
As shown in the photo they can grow to a sizeable height very quickly and take over what has been a diverse range of native flowering shrubs.
We were encouraged in doing this maintenance by finding a large patch of native Correa in flower nearby. This natural regeneration of the area is also occurring with other species so our work is producing beneficial results.
We would encourage anyone who has the Polygala (Butterfly Bush) in their garden to replace it with a native such as Crowea which is readily available in local nurseries at the moment. The Bega Valley Shire Council has a booklet ‘Grow Me Instead’ which is a valuable tool for anyone wishing to establish a garden in this area.
The next working bee for or group is on Friday, August 31 meeting at the car park at the bottom of Tura Beach Drive 8.45am. Contact Celia on 0409 058 330 for more details if you would like to join us.
