The woman was driving on Quondolo St, Pambula when she was stopped by police about 2am on Monday, August 6.
In the vehicle police allegedly located 66 grams of a white substance which they believe to be the drug “Ice” and a large amount of cash.
The woman was arrested and taken to Merimbula Police Station where she was later charged with supplying a prohibited substance and dealing with the proceeds of crime. She was refused bail and will appear at Bega Local Court later in the month.
Driver behaviour
One of the things Merimbula Police will be focusing on over the coming months are burnouts in our area.
Fines and other penalties are quiet severe. The actions of the offending driver could see them issued with an on spot fine of $673 and the loss of three demerit points, they may also have to explain themselves to a magistrate. Police can also ground the vehicle for three months by way of confiscating the registration plates.
Burnouts are a personal hatred of Sergeant Cliff Scarlett, who advised that police don't have to witness the incident themselves and can be up to 10 days old for possible infringements to be issued. A zero tolerance will be applied and police are requesting anyone that witnesses or has footage of burnouts to contact their local station.
Cars unlocked
Police are receiving information of unlocked vehicles in the Merimbula/Tura Beach/Pambula areas being broken into and items stolen.
Unfortunately not all the alleged victims are reporting the incidents allowing the perpetrators to going undetected. Property taken includes cash and phones.
Police are urging residents and visitors to secure their vehicles even if they are parked in their garages or driveways and to report any suspicious activity at the time.
Police are investigating the stealing of an amount of money from an unlocked motor vehicle in Tilba Place Merimbula. The theft occurred between 6pm Friday, August 10, and 1pm the following day.
