“I’ve got so much more I want to achieve in this region,” he said on Monday.
“My focus now is to get money out the door and get things built.”
Putting the wheels in motion ahead of the election in March next year, he said his Liberal Party endorsement will be held this weekend.
Aside from being “about to turn the soil” on the new Bega TAFE campus at the old district hospital in Bega, he said he is “working hard to bring down the cost of living”.
Also, he is determined to resolve the issues around water quality in the Bega Valley, saying two water treatment plants “need to be built” and funding for that project was currently being assessed.
The Bega district was absorbed into the Goulburn district from 1920-1988.
The first sitting member after it was recreated was Russell Smith, also a Liberal, who held the seat until 2003, when he was replaced by Mr Constance.
Currently the Minister for Transport and Infrastructure, Mr Constance first became a minister in 2011 when he was given the disability services portfolio. From 2014, he served an 11-month stint as NSW Treasurer.
Earlier this year, Leanne Atkinson of Tathra was announced as Country Labor’s candidate for Bega.
